It’s best to think of the Audi A5 Coupé as a sleeker-looking but less practical version of the popular A4 saloon.

The A4 is a pretty good starting point for Audi to choose, given that it was our 2016 Car of the Year, although the A5 does cost you more to buy – style doesn't often come cheap, after all.

Coupés aren't just about looks, though; they also need to be good to own and to drive. On that front, we think the A5 is a genuine alternative to its key rivals, the BMW 4 Series and Mercedes C-Class Coupé. The A5 is her inside and marginally more practical than both of those cars, it's available with some absolutely fantastic engines.

True, if you pick the right 4 Series you’ll enjoy more rewarding handling on a winding country road, but is the A5 a better all-rounder? The next few pages will tell you, and we'll also outline which trim levels and engines make the most sense.

If you decide the A5 Coupé is for you, don't forget to check out our new car deals by clicking here. You could save a small fortune without any awkward haggling.
